Working with agents all around the country AND beyond… allows me a unique perspective into what successful agents have in common. Regardless of the market, interest rates, or whatever happens to make the news this week… there are commonalities among my most successful clients and I thought I’d take a few minutes to share them with you.

They know what’s happening in their community from that new sports complex that’s slated for 2026, to the proposed Airbnb changes and they also know about the big tech company that just purchased a large section of land in the northwest.

Successful REALTORS know how to leverage their listings to attract potential buyers and how to use the sale to connect with sellers in the area. They use a variety of marketing strategies including social media, email marketing and strategic networking to both promote their listings and build their brands. They understand business begets business.

Successful REALTORS know how to negotiate effectively to help their clients get the best possible outcome. They are skilled listeners who take the time to understand their client’s needs and priorities and work diligently to find solutions that best meet their needs. While they are transparent with their clients, they also protect them from unnecessary worry by being proactive with negotiations.
How to Provide Excellent Customer Service
They ensure their clients receive the best customer service. They set clear expectations for communication and provide concierge-level service that makes their clients feel like they are their only client. They’re consistently looking for ways to improve and enhance the experience for their clients.
The Importance of Ongoing Education and Professional Development
The most successful agents know that they don’t know everything. They know that staying up-to-date on the latest trends and regulations in the real estate industry is crucial to their success and they enjoy being on the cutting edge. They make an effort to continuously learn and grow by attending industry events and staying current with changes in the market. They’re not afraid to invest in themselves and their education, they know that it takes money to make money and they’ve got the receipts to prove it.
They Need to Have Clear Goals and a Plan to Achieve Them
They know exactly how much real estate they want to sell this year and likely even next. They have a business plan that outlines top priorities and how they plan on achieving their goals. They regularly block time in their calendar to reflect on their progress and make adjustments based on data. They never have their head in the sand or the clouds for that matter. They know that there’s power in data and they love looking at and analyzing numbers.
That They Can’t Do This Alone
They’re visionaries. They’re not afraid to hire and delegate tasks that don’t require their personal attention. They build strong teams with complementary skill sets that add to the collective. They understand the benefits of staying in their zone of genius and they operate accordingly.
That Progress is Always Better than Perfection
Successful agents are action-takers. They take action, gather data, and try again. They’re not sitting around trying to perfect things from the sidelines. They get in the game.
Being successful in real estate is part mindset and part strategy. When you intentionally work on both and you’re committed to your goals, you’ll see the outcomes you’re working towards.
